Benefits of Concrete

Asphalt is commonly used for road construction because it’s less expensive. However, “less expensive” doesn’t necessarily mean “better.” Concrete offers many benefits over asphalt, including:
  • Longer Lifespan:

Concrete can last up to 40 years if it was properly installed and well-maintained, while asphalt typically needs to be resurfaced every 10 to 20 years.

  • Less Maintenance:

Concrete needs to be sealed every few years, while asphalt usually has to sealed, repaired, and resurfaced.

  • More Sustainable:

Concrete is a lighter color, so it reflects more sunlight than asphalt. This reduces the need for street lighting and helps reduce the “heat island” effect in urban areas.

  • More Durable:

Concrete is rigid and strong, so it can handle heavier loads better than asphalt. It also performs well in a variety of weather conditions, unlike asphalt, which can soften in high heat.

AWESOME!!! It’s so hard to find a good contractor these days. Greg was absolutely fantastic. Their price was more than fair. The work was excellent and they cleaned up behind themselves. they did what they said they were going to do and more. I could not ask for a better job .I wish I could give them 10 stars.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How Do I Know If I Need a Road Repair?
You will see obvious physical signs, such as cracking, potholes, denting, pitting, spalling (peeling or flaking concrete), or other visible deterioration. Most cracks can be filled with a sealer, while potholes, spalling, and pitting can be repaired with a patching compound. The important thing to remember is not to put off repairs. While minor repairs can be relatively inexpensive, significant damage often means a replacement is needed, especially in situations where parts of the road have shifted or sunk.
  • How Long Does a Project Take to Complete?
When we perform a site assessment, we will provide a timeline estimate. It’s hard to predict the length of a project, as it will vary based on:
    • The complexity of the job
    • The size of the job
    • The time of year (rain, cold, high relative humidity, etc., can delay concrete projects)
    • The services we’re performing (new installation versus repairs)
    • The extent of the damage (for repair jobs)
  • What Factors Impact the Cost of a Project?
The biggest factors that will impact cost are time of year, location, material costs, and project size/complexity. Naturally, the larger and more complex a project is, the more labor and materials are needed, which will raise the costs. The time of year can also influence the cost because extra work/preparation might be needed based on weather conditions. Another factor that would increase costs is if the project needs to be expedited. Accelerated timelines mean more intensive resource usage and overtime work for our employees.
  • What Is the Most Common Way Concrete Repairs Fail?
Incorrect technique (mostly surface preparation) and materials (sealers, patching compounds, etc.) are the two most common ways concrete repairs fail. When the surface isn’t properly cleaned, roughened, and dampened, it can result in poor adhesion between the new concrete and the existing surface. And with materials, if the repair material doesn’t have similar thermal and moisture expansion coefficients as the original concrete, it can cause cracking and delamination. You don’t have to worry about repair issues with G&G Concrete & Construction. Most of these issues occur when property owners attempt to DIY a repair, hoping it will save time and money, but it almost never does. Another potential reason for failure is not waiting for the patching compound or sealer to fully cure before the repaired surface is exposed to traffic. The cure time helps the concrete achieve the desired strength and durability, so it’s always crucial to listen to your contractor when they provide instructions on when it’s safe to use the road again.
